Jokowi Asked The KPU To Prepare For A Detailed Election Logistics: Technical Things Can Be Political

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized that all levels of the General Election Commission (KPU) can prepare logistics needs in holding the 2024 General Election in detail, without shortcomings, and on time.

This is because a small electoral technical issue, if not resolved, could cause a commotion in the field. This was conveyed by Jokowi at the National Consolidation Meeting on Preparedness for the Implementation of Simultaneous Elections.

"Technical matters can be political. So, we have to be careful. For that, ensure the readiness of detailed logistics facilities. Plan and carry out precise procurement and on time. Don't let unpreparedness cause a commotion in the field," said Jokowi in Ancol, North Jakarta, Friday, December 2.

Jokowi also asked the KPU to ensure that all activities at all stages have clear technical arrangements and legal corridors.

"This is important to anticipate and overcome various problems that will arise," said Jokowi.

Jokowi asked all election organizers to strengthen human resources at all levels, from the bottom to the top. Then, KPU officers who work on an ad hoc must also be equipped with skills.

"All ranks of the KPU must be aware of the magnitude and importance of the task of guarding our nation's democratic party. The momentum is valuable to show commitment and integrity, show the best dedication and ability for the nation and state," he explained.

Furthermore, Jokowi reminded the KPU ranks to work efficiently in terms of utilizing the budget, as well as setting a priority scale in holding simultaneous elections later.

Given, the 2024 election will be held when global economic conditions are predicted to experience a crisis.

"The 2024 election is held in a global economic condition that carries order, difficulties, uncertainty, in the midst of our hard work to restore our economy," said Jokowi.

Jokowi also asked the KPU to help strengthen political education for election participants and the public. Then, invite election participants to conduct elections that are peaceful, honest, with integrity, and reject disgraceful actions that injure democracy, spread slander, hate speech, and money politics.

"We must encourage quality campaigns that make our democracy healthy, optimize information technology, prioritize ideas fighting politics, idea fighting, not fighting politics," he concluded.
