Strengthen National Aviation Cybersecurity, Ministry Of Transportation Involves Australia
JAKARTA - Plt. Director General of Civil Aviation Nur Isnin Istiartono said the development of the digital era, the risk of cyber threats is also diverse and can affect not only security but also civil aviation safety, so preparations and mitigation are needed.
"This cyber crime is more difficult and complicated to trace its origin, so for the safety and security of civil aviation, cooperation and collaboration are needed," said Nur Isnin in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, December 2, quoted from Antara.
This was conveyed by Nur Isnin during the Aviation Conference with the theme Cyber Security in Aviation Conference at the Padma Legian Hotel, Bali on December 1-2, 2022.
The event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in collaboration with the Australian Department of Home Affairs' Cyber and Infrastructure Security Center (CISC) and the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
This conference not only involved Indonesia and Australia, but was also attended by representatives from ICAO, US TSA, ACI, IATA and other cybersecurity stakeholders who are expected to contribute so as to have a positive impact on the future of the global aviation industry.
Nur Isnin continued, Indonesia has been carrying out cybersecurity-related regulations since 2017 in the National Civil Aviation Safety Program which continues to develop and is updated for the implementation of cybersecurity by referring to international standards.
The Ministry of Transportation continues to make better efforts in order to maintain the sustainability of aviation safety standards and policies in accordance with ICAO regulations.
"And to ensure the effectiveness of its implementation, it is necessary to improve Human Resources (HR), infrastructure and technology. For this reason, since 2019 training has been carried out related to cyber drills and cyber awareness," he said.
On the sidelines of the conference, a bilateral meeting was also held between Indonesia and Australia to improve cooperation in the field of cybersecurity in the aviation industry.
Please note, in 2020 Indonesia and Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on transportation security cooperation signed by the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Home Affairs of Australia.
"To improve and maintain flight security, of course, we cannot move individually. It is necessary to cooperate and collaborate periodically with all flight elements. Therefore, we hope that this collaboration can also be achieved at the regional level," he said.
For information, this conference was financed by the Government of Australia by presenting speakers from Indonesia, Australia, the United States, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Airport Council International (ACI), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the National Cyber Crypto Agency (BSSN), as well as cybersecurity stakeholders both domestically and internationally.
