Dance! BPS Calls Inflation Already Happy Peak Period, Highest In September When Fuel Rises
JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) confirmed that the peak period of rising inflation in 2022 had passed before the close of this year. This was conveyed by the Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics of BPS Setianto during a press conference in Jakarta.
According to him, these indications are reflected in the increasingly weakening impact of rising fuel prices (BBM) a few months ago.
"If we look at the trend on a monthly basis, the highest (inflation) usually occurs when the government adjusts the price of fuel. So has this passed its peak? If you look at it, it has reached its highest in September, then it decreased in October and November," he said on Thursday, December 1.
Setianto added that before the end of 2022, inflation usually experienced an increase which was influenced by a surge in demand. Even so, he concluded that the inflation level would not rise beyond September inflation.
"This fourth quarter inflation usually occurs in December which coincides with Christmas and New Year's momentum," he said.
For information, inflation in September 2022 shot high to 5.95 percent on an annual basis (year on year/yoy) due to an adjustment in the price of fuel oil. Whereas in August 2022 the amount of inflation tended to be better maintained by perched at 4.69 percent.
Meanwhile, the impact of the increase in fuel began to fade in October 2022 with inflation decreasing to 5.71 percent. Most recently, the inflation rate was sloping to 5.42 percent in November 2022.
"This inflation is still in line with the expectations of the government which targets below 6 percent," Setianto concluded.
