Tyson Fury Talks About Boxing Opportunities Until The Age Of 50 And Getting A Prime Defeat In Career
JAKARTA - British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury wants to fight in the ring until he reaches the age of 50. He has also prepared himself if one day he accepts his first defeat in his career.
The 34-year-old WBC heavyweight champion has announced retirement several times, but then canceled it. Therefore, people barely trust him anymore if he makes similar announcements.
He last made a confession that he would quit last April after making a brilliant knockout over Dillian Whyte at Wembley. However, he is now in the plan to fight three times in 2023 after dealing with Derek Chisora on December 3 nearest at Tottenham Stadium.
The father of six thinks his career will lead to a long and winding path like Panamanian legend Roberto Duran, who completed his iconic career as a super middleweight boxer at the age of 50.
"I can't stop [boxy]. I will be like Roberto Duran because I don't know anything anymore. I will mess up my unbeaten record because it means nothing to me anymore," he said as quoted by The Sun, Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
Fury actually wants to challenge Anthony Joshua on December 3. However, Joshua did not sign the deal until the deadline given.
He then decided to take the ring against Chisora.
The fighter nicknamed King OfTEN emphasized that Anthony Joshua's surprise decision to reject the opportunity for a voluntary title was the end of their competition. To that end, he is now open to fighting Oleksandr Usyk in March.
"If Usyk's fight can be done, and they really want that fight, then that's the next fight I want and it will happen in Saudi Arabia," he said.
Fury has fought 32 times in his professional career in the boxing ring and has not suffered a single defeat. He collected 23 knockout wins and nine through a decision and one draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018.
