Canadian PMs Announce Additional Assistance Of Rp7.7T To Ukraine And Sanctions Against 23 Russian Individuals At The G20 Summit Sela-sela
JAKARTA - Canada will provide additional military aid worth 500 million US dollars or around Rp. 7,781,725,000,000 to Ukraine, and impose new sanctions on a number of Russian individuals, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement Monday evening on the sidelines of the Bali G20 Summit.
The latest aid makes Canadian donations to Ukraine amount to about US$3.4 billion or around 52,915,730,000,000. That will help fund military equipment, surveillance and communications, fuel and medical supplies, the statement said.
"Canada continues to support Ukraine because it defends its territory, sovereignty, and independence from Russia. This additional military aid will support Ukraine, as they bravely continue to fight against Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion," PM Trudeau said, citing his official website.
Meanwhile, recent sanctions target 23 Russians "who are involved in gross and systematic human rights violations against Russian opposition leaders," including police officers, prosecutors, judges and prison officers.
"This new sanction will add to the pressure on those who support this war action. Together with other members of the international community, we will continue to use every tool we have to hold Russia accountable for its brutal actions against Ukraine," said PM Trudeau.
It said that since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,400 individuals and entities involved in Russia's legal invasion of Ukraine, including the latest.
Many of these sanctions have been carried out in coordination with Canadian allies and international partners.
