Alert! Indonesia's Financial, Quality And Quantity Human Resources Crisis

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani said that the current financial services industry needs the support of many human resources (HR) to keep up with the development of various current financial products.

Minister of Finance, such a high demand was not able to be supported by the availability of quite qualified human resources in the labor market.

"Human resources in the financial sector are still experiencing limitations, both in terms of quantity and quality or competence," he said at the Senayan Jakarta Parliament Complex when discussing the Draft Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK) with Commission XI DPR, Thursday, November 10.

From the data shared by the state treasurer, it is known that in 2021 the number of workers in the field of financial services is 1.6 million. This figure is recorded to only increase by 2.56 percent per year.

"Since the last 10 years, the trend of the financial sector's workforce has experienced increasingly slow growth," he said.

The Minister of Finance then compared the conditions experienced by Indonesia with several friendly countries in the Southeast Asia region. He said, the percentage of Indonesian financial sector workers was only 1.1 percent.

The portion is still below Singapore with 4.4 percent, Malaysia 2.4 percent, and even the Philippines with 1.3 percent.

"This certainly requires the thought of developing human resources to encourage supporting professions, such as accountants, actuaries, we continue to improve the assessment, which is not only in terms of quantity but also quality," he said.

The Minister of Finance added that the financial sector is a trust-based business. Therefore, the government and the DPR have an obligation to be able to formulate laws that can protect the public as well as respond to the latest dynamics.

"The P2SK Bill is a regulatory framework that can answer these various challenges," closed the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
