Vitalik Buterin Trusts Twitter Will Be Better In The Elon Musk Era
JAKARTA Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin commented on Elon Musk's actions in taking over Twitter social media some time ago. Buterin believes that the Tesla boss will bring change and progress to Twitter's platform.
In the first step Elon Musk has taken as the boss of one of the world's most popular social networking sites, is to lay off Twitter chief executive Parag Agrawal, financial chief Ned Segal, as well as head of legal affairs andaya Gadde's policies. He also hinted at more future changes.
"Elon is an actor with a very high variance," said Ethereum boss while speaking at the Singapore FinTech Festival, where he said he "hopefully in the next five to ten years there will be a kind of better social media platform," Vitalik Buterin said as quoted by CryptoPotato.
However, whether it's "Twitter itself or whether we're going to see big waves with alternatives - we can even see the two," added the Ethereum founder.
Overhauling Blue Centang Account Policy
After sparking a stir with its initial move, Musk announced that verified Twitter users would soon be charged for keeping their blue ticks.
Musk suggested a verified account to pay $20 per month. However, after he commented on the account of novel writer Stephen King who disagreed with the price, Musk revised the fee and lowered it to $8 (equivalent to IDR 126,000) per month. The system is expected to be a new way to verify users and combat bots and spammers that disrupt the network.
Musk expects the monthly fee to be "adjusted to a country that is proportional to purchasing power parity." This sparked reactions from many platform users, including Buterin, who said that the efficacy of the new reforms would depend on "how many due diligences are put in place to ensure a blue check is who they say."
He argues that "if there is more actual verification, the results are very different" and questions how such a process would create an "economic hierarchy" while adding that current arrangements are "far more exclusive than the $20/month level than yesterday," Vitalik Buterin said.
