Iwan Fals, Kahitna, And Slank Enlivened The M20 Concert, Strengthening The Role Of Music In The Creative Industry
JAKARTA - The M20 concert event was enlivened by a number of top musicians such as Iwan Fals, Kahitna, Once, Isyana X Deadsquad, Dira Sugandi, and Slank on Tuesday, November 1. The peak of the M20 event carries the theme Music & SDG's: Strong Agent of Social Change, Environment and Economy. Some of the points tried to echo at this event are encouraging fair and inclusive digital information in the music industry, the welfare of musicians and creative economy workers, better access in the music industry, concerts that are community-friendly and low-emission and use music as a platform to promote peace.
Co-chairs Music 20 (M20) Triawan Munaf, a companion to the G20 Presidency, said the G20 Presidency could be a momentum to highlight the importance of music. "Hopefully the M20 initiative can be an important momentum for music," Triawan said at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday. Triawan said music is one of the important creative economy sub-sectors in the world. This is also realized by all state-owned companies, said Triawan, who thinks that music has a vital and crucial role let alone is associated with the G20 Presidency. "We can take advantage of the momentum of the G20 to further 'enliven' the role of music," he said. One of the problems music in Indonesia, he gave an example, is a monetization that is not yet optimal and an ecosystem so that music creators can get the fair results from their work still has to be developed. Through this movement, it is hoped that there will be collaboration so that these problems can be resolved immediately.
The chairman of the M20 Implementing Committee, a companion to the Indonesian G20 Presidency, Tantowi Yahya, said that music must be accommodated and recognized as a movement in the G20.
"We believe the M20 will roll out at the next G20, the next host is India whose music is developing," said Tantowi at a press conference, Jakarta, Tuesday.
Tantowi said the messages raised in the G20 Presidency can also be conveyed through music, a universal language that does not recognize gender, religion, or politics.
He said music could amplify the issues fought for at the G20 Presidency, namely the importance of moving to renewable energy, digital transformation, food crises due to the war between Ukraine and Russia and COVID-19.
"The important message from this summit is not limited to environmentally friendly and low-emission concerts that include zero plastics in festival agendas and the entertainment industry, but also supports the best practices to support music goals and climate issues", said Tantowi.
Tantowi Yahya added that M20 also focuses on the goal of sustainable development goals and digital transformation in the music industry.
"More importantly, this summit includes aligning policies in the future of the music industry to support digital and cultural inclusion, the welfare of musicians, and creative workers."
"All communication at the M20 Summit will produce a final draft that will be submitted to the President of the Republic of Indonesia and submitted to India as the host country of the G20 Presidency in 2023," continued Tantowi.
At the summit, the M20 program will also be handed over to India. "Hopefully the M20 Movement which was born in Indonesia can be a movement that has an impact and benefit the world through music," continued Tantowi.
