Rehan/Lisa Become The Only Indonesian Vice-Indonesian At The 2022 French Open Semifinals
JAKARTA The mixed doubles of Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati are the only Indonesian representatives to successfully reach the semifinals of the French Open 2022.
Rehan/Lisa got the top four tickets after defeating the sixth seeded host pair Thom Gicquel/Delta Delrue in the rubber game 14-21, 21-15, and 21-17 at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin, Friday, October 28 evening WIB.
"We provide evidence that Indonesia's mixed doubles, all mixed doubles players are actually not inferior to the opposing pair. Now we just need to increase communication and focus on the field," said Rehan after the match.
This victory made Rehan/Lisa temporarily lead a winning-loss record over the pair to 2-0. One win before Rehan/Lisa's collection in the same round at the Swiss Open last March.
However, at that time Rehan and Lisa only reached the semifinals after they were beaten by Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Lohau. The semifinals at the French Open are the furthest steps for Rehan/Lisa, especially in the Super 750 BWF level tournament.
"This is our first semifinal at this level. The coach convinced us to be able to go far here. Previously at the 2022 Swiss Open we also fought them and won. It made us confident," said Rehan.
In the semifinals, Rehan/Lisa will face the Dutch pair, Robin Tableing/Selena Piek, who qualified after defeating South Korean fifth seed Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung.
Indonesia actually has three representatives in the quarter-finals. However, two other representatives, namely the men's singles Jonatan Christie and the men's doubles Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, had to lift their suitcases.
Jonathan was forced to go home after being injured in the third game when he met a representative from the Japanese representative, Kodai Naraoka. Meanwhile, Bagas/Fikri's trip was stopped after being beaten by the Chinese Taipei pair, Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han.
