The Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) is coordinating with the Law Enforcement Center (Gakkum) of the Sumatra Region and the police to investigate the death of a Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) in East Aceh Regency."We continue to coordinate with Balai Gakkum and the police regarding the discovery of an individual dead elephant in East Aceh," said Head of BKSDA Aceh Agus Arianto, in East Aceh, Tuesday.Sumatran elephants were found dead in the area of Sri Mulya Village, Peunaron District, East Aceh Regency, Friday, October 14 evening. Based on the results of a necropsy or autopsy, the elephant died from eating fertilizer in a resident's garden.From the results of the crime scene, the location where the dead elephant was found was in the community's plantation area. There were no sharp objects or tools suspected of causing the elephant's death.However, Agus Arianto said, there was a resident's garden hut which was damaged by a wild elephant about 200 meters from the discovery of the dead elephant. Allegedly, the elephant ate fertilizer in the hutAccording to Agus Arianto, if it is found that the garden owner has neglected the use of materials or tools that have the potential to endanger and cause death of animals, the Aceh BKSDA will ask the police to investigate thoroughly.Agus Arianto said the dead elephant was female with an estimated age of six to seven years. The elephant died estimated to be two to three before it was found.When found, the position of the animal died lying down, experiencing swelling in the abdomen.
