Criminal Investigation Agency Fails Smuggling Of 270 Kilograms Of Methamphetamine, One Suspect Dies After Jumping To Muara Buaya

JAKARTA - The Directorate of Drug Crimes at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency foiled four attempts to smuggle crystal methamphetamine in Riau and Aceh with a total of 270.283 kilograms. One of the cases resulted in fatalities.

"During the period from September to October 2022, we managed to uncover several cases with a total of 270,283 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine", said Director of Narcotics Crime at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department Brigadier General Krisno Halomoan Siregar to reporters, Wednesday, October 12.

From one of the cases revealed, it turned out that there were fatalities. He was the captain of a ship carrying 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

The death of the captain of the ship with the initials MI (40) began when the police in collaboration with Customs and Excise investigated information about the shipment of methamphetamine from Malaysia.

From the information obtained, the methamphetamine was sent by sea. The ship's sweep was carried out on September 26.

"The joint team conducted an inspection of the ship at the Selat Panjang People's Pier. The joint team secured some evidence of methamphetamine", he said.

At that time, 20 kilograms of methamphetamine was found on the ship driven by MI. The drugs are stored in the engine room.

With these findings, continued Krisno, MI, and all crew members (ABK) were asked to be examined.

However, MI is not cooperative. He tried to escape by jumping into an estuary known as the crocodile estuary. In fact, at that time, he was in a state of handcuffs.

"When all the officers were on the ship, suddenly he jumped into the crocodile estuary and the information was indeed a lot of crocodiles", he explained.

Then, the joint team searched by making a report to the Meranti Police. The search process also involved personnel from the local National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

However, no results were found. Until, three days later, MI's body was found.

"A suspect MI was found in a lifeless and incomplete condition around the Tohor river, Topang Island, Meranti Islands, Riau", said Krisno.

In this case, the police arrested S, who is also a confidant of Captain MI. Then, hunt down 4 people, one of whom is a foreign citizen.
