Standing! Starting October 12th, The Republic Of Indonesia's Passport Is Official To 10 Years
JAKARTA - The Director General of Immigration has officially determined the Indonesian Passport with a maximum validity period of 10 (ten) years, starting Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
The application of the new passport validity period is based on Article 2A of the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia (Permenkumham) Number 18 of 2022 which was promulgated in Jakarta on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
"Alhamdulillah, the passport policy with a validity period of 10 years can be implemented starting October 12, 2022. We ask for support and advice during the transition period so that Immigration can provide the best service to the community," said Acting Director General of Immigration, Widodo Ekatjahjana, Tuesday 11 October.
Meanwhile, currently the rules regarding the cost of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) passports are being discussed by involving relevant stakeholders. The public will still pay the same fee as before, which is Rp. 350,000,- for ordinary non-electronic passports and Rp. 650,000,- for ordinary electronic passports.
The cost of applying for this passport is valid until the next regulation is issued later.
"The validity period of the 10-year passport does not apply to passports issued before the date of the implementation of Permenkumham 18/2022," he said.
Please note that in Article 2A paragraph (2) of Permenkumham 18/2022 it is stated that ordinary passports (electronics and non-electronics) with a maximum validity period of 10 years are only given to Indonesian citizens aged 17 (seventeen) years or already married. In addition to this category, passports are given for a period of 5 (five) years.
Especially for Children with Double Citizenship (ABG), the validity period for passports will also adjust to the period of time until the child is required to choose his citizenship. For example, if the age of ABG is 18 (eight) years when changing passports, then the passport validity period is 3 (three) years or until he is 21 (twenty one) year old. This age is the maximum limit for ABG to determine its citizenship.
Previously, the Directorate General of Immigration and the Immigration Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Immigration Technical Implementation Units throughout Indonesia held a coordination meeting on the implementation of the 10-year passport period on Monday (10/10/2022). The virtual meeting was also attended by other immigration officials/official officials appointed to Indonesian Representatives abroad.
Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 18 of 2022 is a change from Permenkumham Number 8 of 2014 concerning Ordinary Passport and Passport Travel Letter.
