Just Occupies Position 10 On The List Of 'Most Gay K-pop Idols', Holland Is Disappointed
JAKARTA - South Korean singer Holland entered the ranks of social media trending on Monday, November 30. He reacts to the 10th place he received in a fan survey about K-pop idols who are 'the most gay'
Holland is the first gay K-pop singer to openly disclose his sexual orientation. He has released several singles since his debut song Neverland in 2018.
The singer, whose real name is Go Tae-seob, tweeted Monday morning "please admit that I am gay" after placing 10th on a list shared by Twitter users who handled the "gayest kpop idol" survey.
She then shared a few screenshots on Instagram, plus an image of a crying animated character and a screenshot from one of her music videos showing her kissing a man.
"I was in 10th place. I lost," wrote Holland.
In South Korea, queer artists who are open and proud about their sexual orientation are not common. In the realm of K-pop is also rare.
In an interview with Billboard magazine last year, Holland said he had pursued a career in South Korean entertainment since he was discriminated against regarding his sexual orientation and saw the lack of representation of queer people in the industry.
He described the process of engaging with the arts and fans as a "healing process".
