Beware Of Contributing Tree Ahead Of Rainy Season, Yogyakarta BPBD Asks Disaster Resilient Villages To Prepare Anticipation Steps

YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reminded all disaster-resilient villages that have been formed to check tree conditions in their respective areas ahead of the rainy season.

From the experience of previous years, during the transitional or rainy season there are always fallen trees. Therefore, it is necessary to anticipate tree checks," said the Chief Executive of the Yogyakarta City BPBD, Nur Hidayat, quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 25.

From the results of checking the condition of the tree, Nur continued, every disaster-resistant village (KTB) can decide what anticipatory steps must be taken.

"If the condition of the tree is considered fragile and prone to falling, it can be cut or cut and other anticipatory steps can be taken," he said.

According to him, the fallen tree usually occurs when it rains heavily accompanied by strong winds or when extreme weather occurs.

"BPBD routinely communicates with KTB to convey weather conditions if there is information on potential extreme weather, so that people are more vigilant," he said.

In addition to KTB, the appeal to check and trim trees was also conveyed to the Yogyakarta City Environment Service (DLH). "I think DLH has also started to routinely pruning shady trees on the side of the road," he said.

Even though she has taken anticipatory steps, Nur hopes that the public will continue to increase their vigilance when entering the transition season and the rainy season, especially when extreme weather occurs.

The point of a fallen tree or a fallen billboard is unpredictable. So, vigilance is very important," he said.

In the city of Yogyakarta, 142 KTBs have been formed from the target of 145 KTB to the end of the year. However, as many as 115 KTB administrators need to be re-confirmed.

Based on BMKG forecasts, most parts of Indonesia are expected to enter the beginning of the rainy season from September to November or sooner compared to the previous year.

The peak of the rainy season is expected to occur in December and January 2023.
