Review Of The Construction Of The Medan-Binjai Flyway With Bobby Nasution, Menhub: Don't Be Careless

MEDAN - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya asked that the construction project for the Medan-Binjai flyover flyover be carried out seriously.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation while reviewing the Medan-Binjai Phase II elevated railway (KA) construction project, Saturday, September 24, 2022. He was accompanied by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution.

The Minister of Transportation said that the construction of the railway line, which has been connected from Kualanamu to Medan, will continue from Medan to Binjai along 21.7 kilometers.

The Minister of Transportation wants to ensure that the community can benefit from the development. "We are not building carelessly. We must reach the benefits to the community," said the Minister of Transportation, as quoted from Antara.

Through the development of public transportation infrastructure carried out in the city of Medan, the Minister of Transportation invited the public to move from using private vehicles to mass transportation.

"The construction of mass transportation is needed in the city of Medan, which has started to get jammed," said the Minister of Transportation.

To optimize the mass transportation of trains, continued the Minister of Transportation, there are three main steps that must be taken. First, namely, the headway or waiting time for inter-train arrivals must be short / short, between 15 and 30 minutes.

Second, there are a number of station points that are passed. Then third, integration between modes must be good.

"Thus, it is hoped that mass transportation in the city of Medan will be better and optimal," he said.

He expressed his gratitude for the support from the Medan City Government for supporting the land acquisition efforts to run smoothly.

"This is proof that we are consistent in building mass transportation and not just ceremonial. It is targeted that in 2024 the Medan-Binjai flyover train project can be completed," said Budi Karya.

On the same occasion, Bobby expressed his gratitude to the central government for paying attention to the development of mass transportation in the city of Medan.

He hopes that the point of the station that the train line in Medan can be reproduced and the number of trains can be increased so that the headway is shorter.

"We hope that more people from Medan and its surroundings will move from private vehicles to mass transportation such as trains," said President Joko Widodo's son-in-law.

The construction of the MedanBinjai flyover train infrastructure project is one of the priority programs of the Ministry of Transportation in 2022 to support urban areas.

In this 6.8 Km'sp phase II project, 3.3 kmsp flyover/elevated track, and 3.5 kmsp at grade double track (double lane) will also be built. In addition, two stations, namely Helvetia Station and Sunggal Station will also be built.

This project has started since May 2022 and from September 22, 2022, the realization of development has reached 19.74 percent.

Currently, the Medan-Binjai train line only has one lane (single track) so that it passes through a level crossing in the middle of Medan which causes congestion and endangers safety.

With this development, it is hoped that it will increase the frequency of train travel from 24 trains per day to 56 trains per day, as well as reduce traffic jams between Medan and Binjai.
