TANGERANG - Four defendants in the Tangerang Class I prison fire case underwent a verdict hearing at the Tangerang District Court, Tuesday, September 20. The defendants were Suparto, Rusmanto, Yoga Wido Nugroho, and Panahatan Butar-Butar courtroom.
In the trial of the verdict, each defendant was sentenced to a sentence of less than two years.
"The Butar-Butar area was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months under Article 188 of the Criminal Code. Meanwhile, the other three defendants, namely Suparto, Rusmanto and Yoga Wido Nugroho were sentenced to 1 year and 4 months under Article 359 of the Criminal Code," said Panel of Judges Aji Suryo at the Tangerang District Court, Tuesday, September 20.
"Fourthly, he was sentenced for his negligence in his duty, causing fatalities," he continued.
Meanwhile, the defendant's attorney Budi Hariyadi said the decision was too heavy for the defendants. Because they were dedicated for a long time at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights institution.
"This decision is too heavy, considering that their duties as prison officers have been long enough and some of them have retired. Their awards should also be considered with a working period like this," he said.
Even on this decision, the legal team chose to think before accepting the verdict, and would file an appeal.
"It is very likely that we will appeal, yes, they have not been found guilty and we have not received it, we are still taking other legal action," he concluded.
