Dunia Cups and World Championships to be screened on Discovery+

The International Sports Climbing Federation (IFSC) has signed a three-year broadcast partnership with media giant Discovery for pan-Europe coverage or the rock climbing world championship.

The new deal, which covers all European territory of Discovery, includes all of the IFSC World Cup climbing events and the World Championships. It will be broadcast via the subscription streaming platforms Discovery+ and Eurosport, as well as through the Eurosport linear channels.

Discovery will also produce story content around climbing as the sport continues into its second Summer Olympics in Paris 2024.

The deal will take place with the 2022 IFSC World Cup Series on April 8 from the Dunia Cup event in Meiringen, Switzerland.

With the partnership of new broadcasts, the Olympic Channel will lose its direct IFSC coverage, but the International Olympic Committee's internal media offering (IOC) will continue to flow rock climbing events with a 24-hour delay.

More than anything, our deal with Discovery will boost our sports profile and athletes, which will result in greater sponsorship opportunities for all climbers around the world, said Marco Scolaris, president of IFSC.

We believe that partnering with Discovery will help strengthen our position as one of the fastest-growing Olympic sports and, thanks to greater exposure, will make more and more people interested not only watching rock climbing, but also trying it.

Trojan Paillot, vice president of acquisition and syndicated sports rights at Discovery Sports, added: Trong climbing sport has proven to be very popular with viewers watching across our platform during the Olympics in Tokyo last year, proving to be of interest to new audiences and different from some of those who have enjoyed watching sports and show their potential for engagement and growth.

Discovery has built a reputation that should be imitated to help grow sports and events and bring them to a wider audience and we look forward to bringing this sport to more people across Europe ahead of Paris 2024.
