Tok! R. Kelly Declared For Pornography Children And Excessive Sentences
JAKARTA - Singer R&B R. Kelly on Wednesday, September 14, was found guilty on charges of child pornography and other charges after a month-long trial in his hometown in Chicago, United States.
Quoted from AFP via ANTARA, the owner of the real name Robert Sylvester Kelly was convicted of three charges of producing child pornography and three other charges for persuading minors to have sex with him, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The verdict from 12 judges at the US District Court in Chicago was made after they negotiated about 11 hours for two days.
For information, in Chicago, the sentence of one charge of child pornography carries a minimum sentence of 10 years. In June, Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for extortion and sex trafficking cases in New York.
However, the three-time Grammy Award-winning singer was acquitted of seven other charges, including allegations that she hindered justice in previous trials.
Previously, Kelly and two colleagues, Milton June Brown and Derrel McDavid, had been accused of defaming a child pornography trial conducted in 2008 in which at that time the jury gave an innocent verdict. Both McDavid and Brown, both of whom were tried with the singer in the last trial and acquitted of charges of obstructing justice.
At the 2008 trial, a minor victim refused to testify in due to alleged threats and bribes. At this trial, the 37-year-old woman took the position as a witness.
Quoted from a video depicting Kelly's sexual harassment of 14-year-old girls was also played for the jury during the trial.
Previously, the decision of 30 years in prison in New York in June was widely seen as a milestone for the #MeToo movement that surfaced. It marked the first time Kelly had faced criminal consequences for sexual harassment. In addition, Kelly also faces prosecutions in two other state jurisdictions.
