JAKARTA - Acting Head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono said there were four series of earthquakes with a number of magnitudes shaking Mamberamo Raya, Papua.
The four series of earthquakes were 5.9 magnitudes, 6.9 magnitudes, 5.5 magnitudes, and 6.2 magnitudes starting at 06.31.48 WIB until 07.05.14 Central Mamberamo, Mamberamo Raya, Papua, Saturday 10 September.
The results of the BMKG analysis showed that the earthquake had the first earthquake updated parameters with a magnitude of M6.1, the second earthquake M5.9, the third M5.5 earthquake, and the fourth M6.2. The first earthquake epicenter was located at coordinates 2.21 South Latitude, 138.25 East Longitude or precisely located on land at a distance of 8 km to the Northeast of Central Mamberamo, Mamberamo Raya, Papua at a depth of 19 km.
In his written statement, Daryono said that by taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the four earthquakes that occurred were shallow types of earthquakes due to the activity of the Anjak Mamberamo fault.
The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the four earthquakes have an upward movement mechanism.
The earthquake had an impact and was felt in the Sarmi area with an intensity scale of IV MMI (if during the day it was felt by many people in the house), the Mamberamo area with an intensity scale of III MMI (the vibration was felt real in the house. The vibration felt as if the truck had passed) and the Jayapura area with an intensity scale of II MMI (the vibration was felt by several people, light objects that were hung swayed).
So far, there have been no reports of damage as a result of the earthquake. The modeling results show that the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.
"The public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified. The public is also advised to stay away from buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake. Check and make sure the building where you live is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return home," he said.
