Tunisia's Ons Jabeur Prints History After The Open 2022 US FinalsFinish

JAKARTA - Tunisian Ons Jabeur has written his name in the tennis history book. She became the first African woman to reach the final round of the US Open.

He recorded the record after defeating Caroline Garcia in the semifinals of the US Open 2022. He won in straight sets, Thursday, September 8 local time.

Appearing at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the fifth seed won 6-1, 6-3 in just an hour and six minutes.

This record enhances the achievements that Jabeur has made before. He also made history as the first African female tennis player to reach the Wimbledon final last July.

"It feels amazing," said Jabeur, as reported by Antara from AFP, Friday, September 9.

"After Wimbledon, I got a lot of pressure and I was very relieved to be able to show my results."

"The hard pitch started a bit bad, but I'm very happy that I made it to the final here," he added.

This victory also made Jabeur extend his career dominance over Garcia. The 28-year-old Tunisian has beaten Garcia four times as a junior in the Grand Slam event, and twice as a professional in Slam before.

"I know he plays great tennis and it puts a lot of pressure on you," said Jabeur.

"It's not easy for me, but mentally I'm very ready," he said.

In the final, Jabeur will certainly carry a mission to record a better history. However, he must be prepared to fight the world number one tennis player from Poland Iga Swiatek or Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
