Beijing Tuduh US Agents Repeatedly Hacking The University Of Research In China
JAKARTA - A US agent accused by the Chinese government of repeatedly hacking a research university linked to the government. This action escalates the dispute between the world's two largest economies over cyber reconnaissance.
According to China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, the National Security Agency's Special Access Operations Office launched an attack on Northwestern Polytechnic University in Xi'an,
A team from the center and 360 Security Technology Inc. analyzed the university's information system after reporting an attack from overseas in June, the statement added, as quoted by Bloomberg. The NBA also carried out more than 10,000 "cruel" cyberattacks against China's targets in recent years, even allegedly stealing more than 140 gigabytes of data "big values."
Neither the US embassy in Beijing nor the NSA immediately responded to a request for comment from Bloomberg on the report.
Beijing and Washington have also engaged in an increasingly fierce war of words over cyber spies, with China becoming more mainstream in its accusations.
In February, a Chinese cybersecurity company called Pangu Lab said it discovered US-sponsored hacking activity on Chinese soil. Prior to the claim, Beijing usually responded to US allegations by saying it was a victim of hacking.
