EV Battery Biggest Manufacturers In China, CATL Creates A New Battery That Is Claimed To Have A Larger Energy Shelf
JAKARTA - Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) announced a few days ago that it is working on new battery materials that it claims can increase energy density by 10% to 20% compared to iron phosphate batteries.
Launching from Autoblogging, the CEO and founder of CATL, Zeng Yuqun said that the new material technology is known as M3P. This technology allows electric vehicles to run 700 km (430 miles) per charge.
Zeng did not mention what metal was used in the M3P battery or when the battery could be mass-produced. But for sure, he said that his new ingredient could also lower costs compared to nickel and cobalt-based batteries.
The China's largest battery manufacturer already supplies batteries to several well-known car brands such as Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, and Ford. CATL is passengering more than a third of EV battery sales worldwide.
In a separate announcement on its website, CATL will supply Qilin batteries with the latest battery pack technology for Zeekr Geely Automobile Holdings which will hit the market in early 2023. Qilin's battery launched last June is claimed to have 13% higher energy density.
"With the same chemical system and the same packaging size, these batteries can generate 13% more power than 4680 batteries, perfecting range, rapid charging, safety, life, efficiency, and overall low temperature performance," the company wrote in its announcement on Saturday, August 27.
