Anies: The Old Town, The Unifying Area Of Citizens

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the Old City in West Jakarta is an area that can unite residents from all walks of life.

This is partly because the Kota Tua area provides a large space for pedestrians.

"When we put the sidewalks in, what happens is that a feeling of equality immediately emerges," Anies said while inaugurating the Old City, reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 26.

According to Anies, his party deliberately provides a large pedestrian area so that tourists can walk on the same sidewalk area.

Thus, residents from various walks of life and economic levels can unite to establish togetherness on the sidewalks of the Old City.

"Even so, tourists from various countries can unite together with residents on the same sidewalk," said Anies.

In addition, Anies also assessed that the Old City is a picture of the city in the past as well as in the future.

This is because in Kota Tua residents can see an overview of the journey of the city of Jakarta. At the same time, the current look of the Old Town also presents the face of the future city.

"So it can represent the future face of the city. Marked by pedestrians, facilitated by public transportation, the future of the city with low emissions," said Anies.

Anies hopes that the current appearance of the Old City can provide comfort and togetherness for foreign tourists and residents of DKI Jakarta for recreation.

This inauguration was carried out at the same time confirming the new face of the Old City after being revitalized.

The revitalization has been intensified by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) through the Bina Marga Office and several related agencies since early 2022.

Some of the revitalization carried out by the government, namely improving sidewalks, repairing roads to moving the Old Town Street Vendors (PKL).

The street vendors have been transferred to several places that have been provided by the West Jakarta City Government, including the Kota Intan fostered location to the Ministry of Finance Building on Jalan Kali Besar Utara.
