Twitter Reaffirms Bot And Spam Accounts On Its Platform Only 5 Percent

JAKARTA – In the midst of accusations of lies by Twitter Inc. in maintaining user privacy and security, they reiterate that spam accounts on their platform only represent less than 5% of the total users.

The assertion is in response to a June U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) letter asking for details on its methodology for counting bot and spam accounts.

The issue of the inaccurate counting of bots and spam has also been the topic of a trial filed by Tesla CEO, Elon Musk. The richest businessman in the world claims that bot and spam accounts on Twitter account for 25 percent. This made him feel cheated and finally chose to cancel the plan to acquire the micro blogging platform.

"Twitter believes that it is sufficient to disclose the methodology it used in calculating these figures," the company said in a June 22 letter to regulators, according to its filing on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Twitter itself did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment on reports that undermined their judgment. .

This comes ahead of a closely watched legal row between Twitter and Elon Musk who wants to back out of his deal to buy the company for $44 billion, arguing Twitter misled the billionaire about the number of bot and spam accounts on its platform.
