Passing The First Match Of The 2022 BWF World Championship Smoothly, Marcus: My Condition Is Close To 100 Percent

JAKARTA - The pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon passed their first test at the 2022 BWF World Championships, Wednesday, August 24, smoothly.

Indonesia's mainstay men's doubles won two straight games over the Czech Republic pair, Jaromir Janacek/Tomas Svejda. The Minions ended the Janacek/Svejda resistance with a score of 21-14, 21-13.

This is Marcus' first match after a long absence due to recovery after leg surgery. As is known, he and Kevin did not participate in three Southeast Asian tournaments, namely the Malaysia Open, Malaysia Masters and Singapore Open.

Marcus admitted that he was very happy to be back competing. In this first match, he said, still trying to control the atmosphere of the field.

"But we played quite well, my condition is also good, it's close to 100 percent," Marcus said in a written statement quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, Kevin believes that there are still things that need to be improved even though it was quite easy to win in the inaugural match. He realized that the further he went, the more intense the competition would be.

"Then we have to play better, we will continue to try," said Kevin.

The championship trophy is clearly Kevin/Marcus' target. Understandably, they have never won this tournament.

"Of course I want to win because I've never been, but try to give my best first. Focus on one by one first," said Kevin.
