Circulating Personal Data Issues At PLN And IndiHome Leaks, Kominfo Gives Clarification

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information has provided clarification regarding the alleged leak of personal data of the State Electricity Company (PLN) and the services of PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) IndiHome, which have been heavily discussed recently.

The Director General of Applications and Information at the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, Tuesday, August 23, said that the Minister of Communications and Informatics never stated that Telkom and PLN had received sanctions from the Ministry of Communications and Informatics for the alleged leak of personal data between the two companies.

Furthermore, he said, in a doorstop with reporters on Tuesday (23/8), the context of the Menkominfo statement was that sanctions would be imposed “if” PLN and/or Telkom are proven to have violated the obligation to protect personal data based on the results of an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Communication and Information has summoned PLN on August 20, 2022 and Telkom on August 22, 2022 and has determined follow-up steps.

First, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will conduct further deepening and investigation of the reports provided by the two companies.

Then, efforts to improve cyber security need to be immediately carried out by the two companies to prevent other possible losses in the future.

Lastly, cooperation with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) needs to continue to audit and improve cybersecurity of the two companies.
