Airplane Ticket Prices Are Expensive, South Sulawesi Governor Ready To Give Community Subsidies At Regency And City Levels
JAKARTA - Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman admitted that he is ready to provide subsidies to the people in his region to maintain the affordability of expensive airline tickets.
This follows the direction of the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi so that local governments are able to suppress soaring flight ticket prices.
"We are under the domestic authority for subsidies now, yesterday there was an instruction from the President and we are just waiting for directions from the Ministry of Transportation and BUMN," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 23.
Sudirman said the South Sulawesi Provincial Government provides subsidies at the district and city levels which are the destination of the trip.
"If we provide subsidies in the district. We provide subsidies to Bone and also Toraja for flights from Balikpapan-Toraja and also Makassar-Bone-Kendari," he continued.
The airline ticket subsidy, he said, will gradually be implemented for flights in other areas of South Sulawesi that are considered strategic.
"But for national domestic flights, of course the (central) authority, of course we just have to wait for orders to wait for the direction of the President, the instructions have been given to the Minister of Transportation and we are waiting for them to work," he said.
