It Only Took 15 Days For Surya Darmadi To Return Home, KPK Asked To Learn From The Attorney General's Office
JAKARTA - The move by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to process the law for the owner of PT Duta Palma Group, Surya Darmadi, was appreciated by former investigator of the Eradication Commission (KPK) Yudi Purnomo.
It only took 15 days for the AGO to detain the suspect in the mega-corruption of Rp. 78 trillion to the country since he was named a suspect in the alleged corruption case of money laundering and the seizure of palm oil land in Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau, on August 1, 2022.
He even said that the KPK should learn from the AGO to catch fugitives. The reason is that the Adhyaksa Corps turned out to be more agile in catching escaped criminals than the KPK, which since 2019 has determined Surya Darmadi to be a fugitive.
"KPK must also learn from the Attorney General's Office how to arrest fugitives who have been fugitives for three years and within 15 days," Yudi told reporters quoted on Thursday, August 18.
Yudi hopes that Firli Bahuri et al as KPK leaders must introspect themselves.
They have to see the success of the AGO until it was mentioned by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during his state speech at the Indonesian House of Representatives on Tuesday, August 16.
At least, there are three successes of the AGO that President Jokowi mentioned, namely the corruption of Jiwasraya, ASABRI, and the corruption of PT Garuda Indonesia, Tbk.
"After being more courageous and superior in handling large cases and now even succeeding why fugitives must be appreciated, the KPK leadership must of course introspect on the rapid progress made by the Attorney General's Office," he said.
Previously, the Attorney General's Office named Surya Darmadi as a suspect in the alleged corruption of money laundering and the seizure of 37,095 hectares of palm oil land in Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau. He was named along with another suspect, Raja Thamsir Rahman who is a former regent of Indragiri Hulu.
After the determination of the suspect, Surya was summoned by the Attorney General's Office three times. However, he was absent because he was abroad before finally giving himself up upon arrival at Soetta Tangerang Airport from Taiwan on August 15.
Meanwhile at the KPK, Surya Darmadi was named a suspect three years ago. This decision was made after investigators developed a case against former Riau Governor Annas Maamun.
Now Surya Darmadi is being held by the AGO at the Salemba Rutan, the AGO Branch.
