The Historical Film De Oost And The Last Train Describes The Struggle For Independence

JAKARTA - Every August 17, the public rejoices to welcome the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. There are many celebrations, competitions and ceremonies to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Not to be outdone, TVOne screened two special films De Oost and The Last Train. The two films are set in the history of the Republic of Indonesia during the struggle for independence. The presence of this special historical film is not only to provide entertainment for the community, but also to increase knowledge about the history of the Indonesian nation.

De Oost

The film De Oost (Dutch for “Sang Timur”) is a historical film that takes the background of the events of the Dutch-Indonesian war. This 2020 release is directed by a Dutch actor and director who has Moluccan blood, namely Jim Taihuttu. De Oost tells the story of a young man named Johan de Vries who decides to join the Dutch military.

On his journey as a young Dutch soldier, Johan also had an argument with Westerling, who was the Captain of the Dutch Army. Johan did not like Westerling's attitude of executing prisoners without questioning them first. Westerling who did not like to be denied finally also punished Johan de Vries. The Last Train

The Last Train is also a film that takes place during the independence of Indonesia, released in 1981 and directed by Mochtar Soemodimejo. This film is a story set against the backdrop of the failure of the Linggarjati Agreement. The film, which is based on a novel entitled The Last Train to Jogjakarta: Roman Revolution '45 by Pandir Kelana, is certainly approached with a romantic attitude, both towards heroism and the love story behind it.

The army headquarters in Yogya decided to pull all existing trains to Yogya. This conveyance is important for transportation. For this reason, Lieutenant Sudadi, played by Rizawan Gayo, Lieutenant Firman, played by Pupung Harris, and Sergeant Tobing, played by Gito Rollies, were assigned to escort all trains that would depart from Purwokerto Station, with the cooperation of Colonel Gatot Subroto.
