Corruption Suspect Rp78 Trillion Surya Darmadi Will Return To Indonesia, AGO: We Have Not Received Letter, Please Just Come
JAKARTA - The Head of the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) Ketut Sumedana said that his party had not received a notification letter regarding the return of the suspect in the alleged corruption case of land grabbing PT Duta Palma, Surya Darmadi to Indonesia.
The AGO, said Ketut, had also not received any information that Surya would visit his headquarters as a willingness to be questioned. In fact, previously Surya publicly announced that he would return to Indonesia on Monday, August 15 tomorrow.
"Nothing, we haven't received the letter yet. I just found out from the media," said Ketut in a short message, Sunday, August 14.
In this case, Surya through his legal counsel claims that he is not involved in the corruption that has cost the state Rp78 trillion.
In response to this, Ketut was reluctant to respond. He also did not want to reveal the handling carried out by the AGO if Surya arrived in Indonesia.
"Please just come. I don't want to have polemics. As a good citizen, obey the law, come to law enforcement when summoned," said Ketut.
Previously, the Attorney General's Office had summoned the suspect in the alleged corruption case that cost the state Rp78 trillion to attend on Thursday, August 11.
However, Surya, whose whereabouts are currently unknown, explained that he was not present at the summons due to his sick condition. This made him unable to return to Indonesia some time ago.
"Regarding the summons, I apologize profusely for not being able to attend due to my current health condition, which is not yet possible," he said.
As is known, the Attorney General's Office is currently processing Surya Darmadi in absentia. The effort was made because until now investigators have not been able to bring Surya Darmadi.
Surya Darmadi is the owner of the Duta Palma Group, which was named a suspect in the corruption case of oil palm land tenure because it cost the state Rp78 trillion. Apart from Surya Darmadi, former Indragiri Hulu Regent Raja Thamsir Rahman (RTR) was also named a suspect.
Then, on August 9, Surya wrote a letter addressed to the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia ST Burhanuddin. Surya stated that he was ready to face the applicable legal process.
"I promise that in August 2022, I will immediately come before the Attorney General's Office and be ready to follow all existing legal procedures," Surya said in his letter, quoted on Sunday, August 14.
