Polda Metro Rejects Roy Suryo's Detention Suspension
JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has decided to reject the application for a suspension of detention submitted by former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Roy Suryo.
Roy Suryo is a suspect and is being held in the case of the Borobudur Temple stupa meme that resembles President Joko Widodo.
"The request for a postponement of his detention has so far not been granted," said Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes E. Zulpan to reporters, Friday, August 12.
However, Zulpan did not explain the reasons behind the rejection of the suspension of detention.
It was only conveyed that the refusal was entirely the consideration and authority of the investigator.
"In the law, it is explained that the investigator's considerations can be afraid of the suspect losing evidence, the suspect running away. There are various things. The public can judge yes," he said.
Then, regarding the progress of handling the case, investigators have sent Roy Suryo's case file to the research prosecutor. Later, the file will be checked for completeness to determine the next step.
"So the filing is finished, we just have to send it to the prosecutor's office. If the prosecutor's office is declared complete, P21 will be done, then we will do phase 2," said Zulpan.
Roy Suryo was detained at the Polda Metro Jaya detention center after undergoing three examinations as a suspect. The detention was carried out for the next 20 days.
The reason behind the detention was because investigators were worried that the telematics expert would run away and lose evidence.
In this case, Roy Suryo was charged with Article 28 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45 Paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE. Then Article 156a of the Criminal Code and Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning criminal law regulations.
