More And More Fed Up With The Performance Of The Glazers Family, MU Fans Will Boycott The Match Against Liverpool
JAKARTA - The hashtag #KosongkanOldTrafford is again echoing on social media. Manchester United fans are planning to boycott the match on August 22 when the Red Devils host Liverpool.
The attitude of the fans who urged to vacate Old Trafford in the match against Liverpool was carried out as an expression of disappointment. Supporters are fed up with the Glazer family's performance in running their beloved club.
Quoted from Sportbible, Thursday, fans began to express their frustration through scathing tweets ahead of the match which was held in two weeks.
One fan said on Twitter: “How the Glazers were allowed to borrow £600m from the bank, bought #MUFC, put that debt over the club, took out £1.5bn and put us on the exchange stocks to profit from a very confusing dividend. #EmptyOldTrafford”
Another also tweeted that he would give up time not to watch Manchester United's game because he was so fed up with the Glazers
“I haven't missed a home game in 9 years. I will miss this one. I'm sick of the Glazers. We only have a few things in life that we love, I won't let Glazer ruin this one again. Man Utd v Liverpool #EmptyOldTrafford”
Other supporters also voiced their opposition to the Glazers.
“Enough with the excuses, you are against the Glazers or you are for the Glazers! Enough is enough. Time's up, we have to stop funding them, the Glazers have to be forced out! #GlazersOut #EmptyOldTrafford”
If the boycott plan is really carried out by MU supporters, then this will be the second United vs Liverpool match at Old Trafford which is colored by controversy. Last year, the match against the Reds also had to be cancelled.
As United fans planned a protest ahead of the meeting of the two teams, thousands of people waited outside Old Trafford before entering and finally they barged into the dressing room, some climbing into the net, fighting on the pitch and others tearing corner flags.
Things got even worse after fans clashed with the police. This situation resulted in several people being injured, while a police officer was slashed in the face by a bottle and required hospital treatment.
Last week, before United's first Premier League game with new coach Erik ten Hag, fans also lined up to protest before the game started. A banner was flown by fans, reading: "Fight greed, fight for United, fight Glazer."
United's performance on the pitch at that time also did not help calm the fans, as many chanted 'we want the Glazers out' during the match. Moreover, the Red Devils also lost.
The relationship between fans and owners is at a tense point. In fact, the support of the supporters is needed by Ten Hag in order to restore the confidence of his players and return the heyday to Old Trafford.
