However, until now, Durex has not announced more detailed information regarding its plans to dive into the metaverse. On the other hand, the USPTO only explained that the company outlined a number of points including crypto mining, virtual condoms, NFT, cryptocurrencies, media files, and financial services integrated with cryptocurrencies.
Metaverse Attraction
In recent months, a number of leading companies have shown interest in the metaverse and NFT such as Tag Heuer, Tiffany & Co., Nike, Adidas, Samsung, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and so on.
According to DailyCoin, so far in 2022 alone, more than 3,300 patents related to the metaverse have been registered with the USPTO. The amount is submitted by brands around the world.
In addition, the official trademark filing indicates that it intends to enter the NFT market, along with virtual goods and experiences, in its future business plans.
The American Professional Golfers Association (PGA), which recently revealed that it is finalizing an agreement with Sorare and Autograph to launch NFT golf, is also filing a new Web 3.0 trademark application for its logo.
Nonetheless, one of the leading cryptocurrency industry figures Vitalik Buterin argues that the current company has not really been able to create a metaverse. On the other hand, the Ethereum founder is optimistic that the metaverse will exist, but not in the near future.
Buterin shared his views on July 30, 2022 in his official Twitter post. He also commented on Meta's efforts to focus on metaverse development. Buterin doubts the company owned by Mark Zuckerberg can develop it.
