Pick Up Car Enters Abyss Leading To 8 Deaths, Ciamis Police: Cause Revealed After Handling Victims
JABAR - A pickup or pickup truck fell into a ravine on Jalan Raya Sukamantri-Panjalu, Sukamantri District, Ciamis Regency, West Java (West Java), Monday, August 8. As a result, eight people died and nine were injured.
The Ciamis Police Chief, AKBP Tony P Yudhangkoro, stated that he was still investigating by sending a number of personnel to the scene to find out the cause of the accident.
"While the allegations are still being investigated, whether the brakes failed or there were other factors," he said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Monday, August 8.
He said that the pick-up car with police number E 8393 VJ was traveling from the direction of Majalengka Regency to Panjalu, Ciamis Regency. The accident into the ravine then occurred on Jalan Raya Sukamantri-Panjalu at around 07.30 WIB.
The police, he said, are still carrying out the process of evacuating victims as the main step before further investigating and processing the scene of the case.
"We are still carrying out the evacuation process, it is part of the crime scene handling process, which is the initial priority for victims," he said.
The incident began when a pick-up truck carrying 17 residents of Barujul, Jatiwangi, Majalengka Regency was about to attend a celebration in Panjalu, Ciamis Regency.
However, upon arrival in the Ciamis area, the car had a single accident, which was to fall into a ravine with a depth of about 30 meters on Jalan Raya Sukamantri-Panjalu.
As a result of the accident, six people died at the scene, then one person at the puskesmas, and another at the Ciamis Hospital, while the rest were injured and received treatment at the hospital.
The location of the accident is an alternative route connecting Majalengka Regency with Ciamis Regency which has winding, uphill and downhill road conditions, and there are ravines.
