Komnas HAM Appreciates Cigarette Advertising Restrictions Near School Buildings And Sports Events
JAKARTA - Head of Komnas HAM Ahmad Taufan Damanik said his party appreciates the government's regulation on limiting cigarette advertisements. Mainly related to sponsorship of sports events.
"In the past, if you watched the F1 race, yes it was the cigarette factory, football was like that, not anymore," said Taufan Damanik at a press conference entitled "Protect Children and Teenagers from Affordable Cigarette Prices for the sake of Superior Resources Achieving Advanced Indonesia. He also appreciated the rule not to place cigarette advertisements near school buildings or places where there are many children.
"It has started to have stronger restrictions in public spaces," he added.
According to him, various transportation facilities have also implemented rules that prohibit passengers from smoking.
"If we take TransJakarta, I think it's clear that smoking is not allowed, planes are also not allowed, at the airport also only certain places," he said, according to Antara.
However, his party still has not seen strict rules in educational institutions.
"We still see in schools, teachers teach while smoking, canteens, on campuses it is still like that even though the campus contains highly educated people," he said.
In addition, his party also asked the government to prohibit all promotional advertising and sponsorship of cigarette products in accordance with the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
"In Article 13 of the FCTC, it is stated that promotional advertising and sponsorship from cigarette factories is prohibited as much as possible," he said.
Komnas HAM also asked the government to apply the principle of the best interests of the child in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and not to put economic considerations first.
