Jokowi Asked To Socialize RKUHP, Kemenkumham: The Goal Is To Ask For Public Input

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) was asked by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to disseminate the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP) to the public.

Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Prof. Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said Jokowi wanted the drafting of the RKUHP to really involve public participation.

"The goal is to ask the public for input," said Edward in a webinar with the theme "Creating a New Criminal Code that Can Create Justice" in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 3.

Edward said Jokowi conveyed it during a limited meeting (ratas) with his ministers on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. In the ratas, Jokowi also emphasized the importance of Indonesia having a Criminal Code.

He admitted that since then, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has held a number of agendas simultaneously, including with the DPR, and will invite or hear opinions with the public.

During the webinar, Edward also expressed his gratitude to The Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) who recorded around 104 pages of the RKUHP, after the government submitted the draft RKUHP on July 6, 2022.

He said the recording starts from article 1 to the explanation. This will later be used by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to improve the RKUHP.

"From the maker's point of view, this is definitely good, but we need other people outside the formulator," he said.
