Barcelona Often Beat Chelsea In The Hunt For Players, Joan Laporta: They Believe In Our Project
JAKARTA - Barcelona irritated Chelsea in the player transfer market this summer. Besides having hijacked the Blues, Barcelona also successfully cornered the English Premier League club in the hunt for players.
After Raphinha picked up by Barcelona, the latest is Jules Kunde. The Sevilla player also prefers to join the club nicknamed the Blaugrana rather than Chelsea.
Same case for Raphinha. Chelsea have even agreed a deal with Leeds United for the Brazilian winger. However, the player chose the Catalan club instead.
Chelsea are also interested in Robert Lewandowski, but the player who came from Bayern Munich is only interested in Barcelona.
Ousmane Dembele, who is also rumored to be joining Chelsea on a free transfer, has actually extended his stay at Barcelona.
Worse for Chelsea with Barcelona also eyeing Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. This move makes Chelsea's new owner, Todd Boehly, reportedly frustrated.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta then revealed the recipe. He revealed why the players rejected Chelsea in favor of playing at Camp Nou.
There are two reasons, namely their big project and the coach, Xavi Hernandez.
"Those players wanted to come to Barcelona because they believe in our project, our history, our style of play and our coach, Xavi, is also important," Laporta told CBS Sports as reported by The Sun.
Laporta then commented on his recent meeting with Boehly. Rumors emerged of the meeting to discuss the possibility of Chelsea buying Frenkie de Jong, cornering Manchester United.
"No, no, no. We had a very nice dinner in Barcelona and we talked in general about football," argued Laporta.
"He looks like a guy who knows what he wants to do and it was a very nice dinner."
