ART From Indonesia Imprisoned For 8 Weeks Hits Grandma's Head In Singapore Who Has Dementia
JAKARTA - Ngaisah now has to be in prison. The Indonesian maid was caught on CCTV slapping and hitting her 101-year-old employer with a cup on the head.
Quoted from Channel News Asia, Friday, July 29, his employer was a woman. Ngaisah's job so far is to take care of the grandmother who has dementia. And this work has been done for five years.
Due to dementia, victims are unable to recognize family members or communicate with them. He relies on Ngaisah, who is familiarly called, to fulfill his daily needs. The two live together in a flat in Lorong Ah Soo.
On April 26, the victim's family installed a closed-circuit television camera in the living room of the flat to monitor them.
A family member saw footage of the day and filed a police report after seeing how the old woman was treated.
The footage, which was played in court, shows that at around 6pm on April 26, Ngaisah was feeding the victim as they sat side by side on the living room sofa.
While feeding him, Ngaisah hugged the victim tightly, slapped her on the cheek once, then released her. The victim was seen holding and rubbing his cheek in pain.
Ngaisah continues to force the victim to feed. About half an hour later, he helped the woman take her medicine and drank water from a plastic cup.
As the water ran out, CCTV footage showed Ngaisah hitting the victim on the head once with a cup. The victim was seen rubbing his forehead.
After the offense was discovered, the victim was taken to the hospital, and no obvious injuries were found on him.
The old woman was unable to tell the medical staff what had happened to her. He was treated and discharged a week later.
The victim's ability to protect herself from abuse is impaired by her dementia, making her a vulnerable person. Ngaisah knows this and is therefore responsible for a heavier sentence, prosecutors said.
