Illegal Crossing Where Odong-odong Was Hit By A Train In Serang Asked To Immediately Build A Crossing Gate

JAKARTA - The Serang City Government has asked PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to immediately build a railroad crossing gate in Silebu Village, Serang Regency. There were nine people died after the odong-odong they were riding was hit by a train that passed there.

The residents who died were Saptiyah (51), Sawiyah (71), Saptanis (42), Kadilah (38), Sunenah (55), Yanti (22), Azzizatul Atiah (two), Ismawati (eight) and Amanda (two). , all of whom are residents of Cibetik Village, RT010/03, Walantaka District, Serang.

"The construction of the gate crossing is guarded so that there will be no more accidents," said Deputy Mayor of Serang, Subadri Ushuludin, Wednesday, July 27, quoted from Antara.

The Serang City Government is now coordinating with PT KAI over the case of odong-odong - officially not recognized as a public and private mode of transportation - which was hit by a train from Serang to Rangkasbitung.

The accident occurred at 11.00 WIB Tuesday (26/7) causing nine people to die and others to have serious and minor injuries.

"We certainly share our condolences for the disaster experienced by its citizens, but the disaster has a cause and effect and there needs to be a guard at the crossing gate," he explained. Involving local residents who guard railroad crossings can receive honorariums from the local government. However, for the Serang Regency area, there are still train crossings without gates.

Thus, the Serang City Government and Serang Regency will coordinate with PT KAI so that there will be no more accidents at the crossing.

"We ask that all train crossings be guarded," he said.

He said that the Serang City Government through the Serang Transportation Service would immediately collect data on odong-odong in the community. Odong-odong is considered unfit, so it is recommended that it should not operate to serve passengers and pass on public roads.

There have been quite a few traffic accidents involving odong-odong, which are intended for recreational purposes only, so the government authorities in Serang have instructed that odong-odong in the city be recorded.

"If the odong-odong is not feasible, then it cannot operate and if it is feasible it can operate," he said.
