BPOM Batam Observes Distribution Of Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream After Ban, Importers Asked To Temporarily Stop Sales

BATAM - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (POM) has begun tracing the distribution of Haagen-Dazs ice cream in all areas of Batam which is prohibited from being distributed in Indonesia.

"Today we are starting to monitor and monitor distribution facilities in Batam. Starting today, we are investigating," said Batam City POM Head Bagus Heri Purnomo in Batam, Antara, Friday, July 22.

Bagus explained that the supervision was carried out in reference to the announcement from BPOM RI on Tuesday, July 19 which announced the temporary suspension of the distribution of Haagen-Dazs ice cream products with vanilla flavors in pint packaging and mini cups in the market in Indonesia because they contained Ethylene Oxide (Et0) exceeding the threshold. permitted by the European Union.

“The products that are being withdrawn are pint and mini cup packages. Ice cream products with the same brand for 100 ml and 473 ml packages imported from France are registered with BPOM and circulated in Indonesia," he said.

In addition, he said, as a precaution, his party has also instructed importers to temporarily stop the circulation or sale of the ice cream product.

He appealed to the public if they found the Haagen-Dazs brand ice cream product with the vanilla flavor variant still circulating, to report it to the local BPOM.

"We are continuously monitoring and supervising the circulating products for the protection of public health and ensuring that products registered with BPOM and circulating in Indonesia, especially Riau Islands, are safe for consumption," he said.
