JAKARTA - The joint SAR team managed to find one body, a passenger of KM Cahaya Arafah on the Ternate-Gane route, South Halmahera Regency.
"Today, at around 11.44 WIT, one victim of the sinking of KM Cahaya Arafah was found at a depth of 45 meters above sea level and the victim was found to be female and is currently being brought to Tokaka Village for examination by the forensic team," said Head of Basarnas Ternate Fatur. The victim was found on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at around 11.44 WIT not far from the wreck of the KMP Cahaya Arafah in the waters of Tokaka Gane, Central Halmahera Regency.
The victim was found at a depth of approximately 45 meters above sea level for the identity of the victim is still being identified by the forensic team.
The sinking of the KM Cahaya Arafah for the number of victims who drowned in the incident of this ship accident has reached 13 passengers so far, so that with the discovery of this one body, there are 12 victims left in the search for the Joint SAR team.
The Ternate Basarnas Search and Rescue Office, North Maluku (Malut) deployed a Joint SAR team from Basarnas, TNI/Polri to resume search and rescue operations on the second day of the search for 13 victims of the passenger ship KM Cahaya Arafah, who were declared missing.
He added that on this third day, the joint team was still focused on searching for victims who had drowned in the waters of Tokaka Island, South Halmahera Regency.
The search started at 07.30 WIT and the joint SAR Team divided the SRU and conducted a search in the search area of each SRU that had been created and planned SRU 1 conducted a search of 8.7 Nm from LKP using Sea Rider KN Pandudewanata, Sru 2 conducted a search of 11.6 Nm from LK using the Bacan SAR Alert Rubber Boat Unit, Sru 3 conducted a 9.7 Nm search from LK using the Halsel BPBD Speed Boat and SRU 4 conducted a 15 Nm search on the coastal waters of Tokaka village using a community longboat.
He explained, according to the initial manifest report, there were a total of 76 passengers on board the KM Cahaya Arafah ship. However, after the data returned there were 77 people and 64 had been found safe, and the remaining 12 people were still being searched, because one female victim was found on Wednesday (20/7) afternoon.
