Kaltara Police Name 10 Suspects In Illegal Gold Mining Case

TARAKAN - The Regional Police (Polda) of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) have named 10 suspects in the case of illegal gold mining in Bulungan Regency and Tana Tidung Regency.

"The suspects are MM as a miner, KH as a miner and manager, RS as a miner, AW as a transporter and IH, BH, RR, MN, NA, and PA as a processor," said Director of Criminal Investigation at the Kaltara Polda Kombes Hendy F. Kurniawan in Tanjung Selor, Bulungan reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 19.

Previously the police received six reports related to illegal gold mining. From the results of the operation, the Ditreskrimsus Polda Kaltara secured the perpetrators from the scene in two locations, namely Sekatak Buji Village, Sekatak District, Bulungan with four crime scenes.

As for Bikis Village, Sesayap Hilir Subdistrict, Tana Tidung Regency, there were two crime scenes.

From the catch, found evidence from mining in the form of 132 sacks of soil and rock material suspected of containing gold.

"Then two transport cars and refining processing goods such as gold as much as 1,006.27 grams, silver as much as 4,115.23 grams, and cash amounting to Rp.86,039,000," he said.

Furthermore, there was one sack of borax, two oxygen cylinders, four gas cylinders, five digital scales, five purchase records, one carbon mixed with material suspected of containing gold, one compressor, two blowers, and a set of combustion equipment used for processing.

The suspect was charged with Article 161 junto Article 35 paragraph (3) letter c and g junto Article 104 junto Article RI Law Number 4 of 2009 as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 3 of 2020 concerning Mineral and Coal with a maximum imprisonment of 5 (five) years and a maximum fine of a lot of Rp. 100 billion.

In addition, they are also threatened with Article 158 of the Law with a maximum imprisonment of 5 (five) years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 billion.
