Careful! Cybersecurity Experts Spot Online Scams On Behalf Of NVIDIA

JAKARTA - Online fraud is increasing along with technological advances. To get a large number of victims, one of the tactics used by online fraudsters is to use well-known company brands.

Experts from Kaspersky discovered a new cybercrime activity, where the perpetrators are on behalf of the technology company NVIDIA in their criminal activities.

"Crypto scams using photos of celebrities, or well-known brands have become rampant recently. We are seeing campaigns in the names of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Pavel Durov," said Olga Svistunova, security expert at Kaspersky, quoted Saturday, July 16.

These criminals intentionally created a fake website that reads NVIDIA Company 30th Anniversary Celebration, visitors can participate and have a chance to get a total prize of 50 thousand bitcoins.

But unfortunately, the perpetrators of cybercrime certainly make efforts to outwit the victim by using the wrong Nvidia logo from green to purple.

This page displays the “Participate” button if clicked it will take visitors to the next page which contains detailed information about the distribution of prizes. However, there are a lot of spelling mistakes, which are not commonly found at a leading company like NVIDIA. This page entices victims to donate some money before winning a prize. This page also features a photo of Jensen Huang, CEO at NVIDIA.

Successful participants will be notified that they can double their donation or even get a 'jackpot' of 50 thousand bitcoins. The page includes crypto wallet credentials for users to send their 'donations'.

The scammers' wallets can be checked on the blockchain.com site, however, the total account balance is 0.42 BTC (equivalent to 8,495 USD) much less than the advertised 50k bitcoins.

It is uncertain whether the amount there has been shaped by donations or not, but some transactions from unknown senders can be tracked in the account history.

"This time, the attackers went a step further, creating a fake website in the name of the NVIDIA CEO and linking the site to a special company event. Our main advice is to be careful browsing the links you follow on the internet, and avoid donations of any kind from untrusted sources. not trusted yet," explained Svistunova further.
