OJK Finds New Mode Of Customer Fraud His Name Is Soceng, What Is It?
JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has again identified a new mode of fraud against bank customers in the form of social engineering, aka soceng.
In his explanation, the institution led by Wimboh Santoso revealed that soceng is generally carried out by criminals by contacting potential victims by telephone.
By using this media, the perpetrators pretended to be certain bank officers who asked several things, such as account numbers and other personal identities. In order to smooth this action, it is not uncommon for perpetrators to scare their victims with threats that the account used is in a blocked status and cannot be used if they do not provide the requested information.
“The crime of soceng makes us have to be more vigilant. When you encounter this mode, don't panic, and most importantly, don't give out personal data," said OJK in a written statement on Tuesday, July 5.
The authority also emphasized that official banks never ask customers for personal and confidential information through channels that are not in accordance with applicable regulations.
"Remember! The bank has never asked consumers to provide an OTP code for any reason," said the release.
OJK again reminds customers to always increase vigilance and check with official agencies to ensure the validity of financial products.
"Beware of the soceng crime mode, aka social engineering, to steal personal data and drain your account," concluded the Financial Services Authority.
