Being A Lawyer With Disabilities In Drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Park Eun Bin Be Careful
JAKARTA - Actress Park Eun Bin has become a lawyer with a disability in the new series Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The series premieres on Wednesday, June 29 on streaming platforms Netflix and Seezn.
In the series, Park returned to the small screen by playing the character of a genius lawyer who suffers from autism named Woo Young Woo. Park said that at first he could not imagine how he should portray the character when he first read the script.
“It's not a script that can be viewed with bias, so I feel cautious. I wonder if I'm suitable to play the character," he said during a press conference in South Korea for the series, quoted by The Korea Times on Saturday.
But instead of just acting, Park said he was trying to understand the way of thinking and positioning himself as the character he played. He admitted that he did not want to imitate the picture of autism that had been circulating in the media. Park even had discussions with autism experts.
"I have room for creative freedom in acting, but also have to set the right boundaries to capture how the character feels," he was quoted as saying by ANTARA.
Directed by director Yoo In-sik, the series Extraordinary Attorney Woo revolves around Woo Young-woo, a novice worker at a law firm who suffers from autism. Woo has an amazing memory, he can remember every book he reads and gets top rank in law school.
Starting his first job at the firm as a lawyer, Woo tackles challenges and prejudice outside the courtroom as he wins a lawsuit with the help of the firm's paralegals, Lee Jun-ho (played by Kang Tae-oh) and senior lawyer Jung Myung-seok (played by Kang Tae-oh). Ki Young).
Extraordinary Attorney Woo's debut earned a viewership rating of 0.9 percent on Wednesday, then increased to 1.8 percent the following day when the second episode aired.
According to the director, the touching episodes and valuable messages while reading the script have prompted him to direct the series. Although the story revolves around dark cases, he said the series will also feature warm humor and a touching story.
“I feel this series can be a space to discuss valuable and diverse stories. In the script, I can see elements of refreshing entertainment, as well as humor and heartwarming emotions," said Yoo.
