At Bhayangkara Anniversary, Puan Maharani Appreciates The Establishment Of A Special Directorate For Women-Children: In Line With The TPKS Law
JAKARTA - Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, hopes that the National Police will be more professional at the age of 76. At the Bhayangkara Anniversary which is commemorated every July 1, the Police are encouraged to continue to be humane in their service to the people.
"Happy 76th Bhayangkara Day 2022. Happy Indonesian National Police. Greetings Precision," said Puan in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, July 1.
Puan said that the increasingly complex era required the National Police to adapt in facing various challenges. Puan reminded that the adaptation must always adhere to the main tasks and functions of the National Police in accordance with the mandate of the law.
"I am sure that by continuing to improve professionalism and promoting a humane attitude, the National Police will continue to be an instrument of the state that is accepted and always together with the community," he said.
Under the leadership of the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the National Police is now in the stage of transformation to Precision. Precision is the vision of General Listyo Sigit, which is also an acronym for predictive, responsible, transparent and fair.
“The DPR certainly follows the various achievements of the Police so far. Starting from reducing crime rates, optimizing the handling of acts of terrorism, to the achievements of the National Police who have helped in handling the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccination programs," said Puan.
The steps taken by the Police, which are now putting more emphasis on restorative justice, are also considered to have played a role in national security stability. In particular, Puan also appreciated the National Police for forming a special Directorate for Women and Children at the Criminal Investigation Unit which later would also reach the Polda and Polres levels.
"We hope that the process of forming the Directorate of Women and Children Services (PPA) of the National Police can run smoothly because it is very necessary given the high number of cases of violence against women and children," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
According to Puan, the PPA Directorate will support the technical implementation of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS), which was recently passed by the DPR. Moreover, the PPA Directorate will later be filled with more female police officers (Polwan).
"The Directorate of Women and Children Services is in line with the TPKS Law, which Alhamdulillah has been realized after a long struggle for us," said Puan.
"By making female policewomen to be at the forefront, the PPA Police Directorate will certainly make victims feel more comfortable considering that the majority of victims of sexual violence are women and children," he added.
The Directorate of PPA Polri is also expected to play a role in prevention programs for violence against women and children. It is also believed that the cooperation between the National Police with cross-agency and community elements can help quickly resolve cases of sexual violence, including assistance for victims.
"We believe the Police will continue to have integrity in serving the community. The police must be firm in cracking down on crimes against women and children,” said Puan.
On the other hand, the National Police is also asked to play a major role in the economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic through various programs it has. This, said Puan, is in accordance with the theme of Bhayangkara's 76th Anniversary, namely 'Precise Police Supports Economic Recovery and Structural Reforms to Realize Resilient Indonesia, Growing Indonesia'.
"Thank you for the service of all police officers so far. Keep going the Police, continue to protect and protect the people," concluded the grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia Bung Karno.
