Yenny Wahid Reminds Politicians Not To Use SARA Issues Ahead Of The 2024 Election

BADUNG - Wahid Foundation Director Zannuba Ariffah Chafsoh alias Yenny Wahid reminded politicians not to use issues of ethnicity, race, religion, and intergroup (SARA) as a means of consolidating votes ahead of the 2024 General Election (Election).

According to him, the issue of SARA can quickly gain votes, but its impact can divide the nation.

“The SARA issue is the easiest issue to use for political consolidation, but it is a very dangerous issue for the community. The impact is long," Yenny said in Badung, Bali, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 29.

He reminded politicians not to take this shortcut and asked the public as voters to be smart and not easily provoked if there are parties who use SARA issues in their political campaigns.

“We as smart voters must demand accountability from political figures so as not to use SARA issues because the impact will divide society. The impact is long and very damaging,” said Yenny.

In the declaration of preparedness held by BNPT in Badung, Yenny Wahid conveyed that the use of SARA issues was contrary to Pancasila as the philosophy and basis of the state.

Pancasila, said Yenny, is a way of life that respects diversity or diversity in social life.

“Indonesia is lucky because it has Pancasila. For us Muslims, Pancasila is a sacred bond that unites all Indonesian citizens regardless of religious background, belief and race in one frame of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," Yenny said.

He conveyed that Pancasila then became a mechanism to manage differences so that diverse Indonesian people could live side by side and be tolerant of differences.

"Here we have a kind of understanding that there is no need to mess with SARA issues because in other countries (understanding) it has not developed," he said.
