Ahead Of Eid Al-Adha 2022, A Total Of 1,749 Livestock In Garut Recover From Mouth And Nail Disease
GARUT - Ahead of Eid al-Adha which will take place on July 9, as many as 1,749 cattle with confirmed mouth and nail disease (FMD) in Garut Regency, West Java, were declared cured.
Head of the Fisheries and Livestock Service Office of Garut Regency, Sofyan Yani, said the number of cattle recovered from the total number of cattle infected with FMD in Garut was 5,227 heads.
"There are 1,749 cattle that have shown recovery or improvement in their condition after treatment," said Sofyan in Garut, quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 26.
He said the livestock health team, assisted by a number of other agency officers, continued to monitor, examine, and treat any livestock known to be infected with FMD.
All cattle, sheep, and goats, he said, were examined intensively to ensure their health conditions showed symptoms of contracting the FMD outbreak or not.
He conveyed that so far the health team has treated livestock with FMD symptoms, and efforts to encourage asymptomatic livestock to return to health as many as 5,227 cattle spread across a number of sub-districts.
"Treatment of cattle with symptoms of FMD 3,425 heads consists of 75 sheep, four goats, 16 buffaloes, 1,532 beef cattle, 1,798 dairy cows," he said.
In addition to the cattle that recovered and were still infected, said Sofyan, there were also 75 cattle that died with symptoms of PMK spread across several sub-districts, then 79 cattle with symptoms of PMK were conditionally slaughtered.
The animal health team, he said, will continue to work so far, especially ahead of Eid al-Adha 1443 H to ensure that the cattle sold for sacrifice are in good health, especially free of indications of contracting FMD.
In addition, he continued, his staff has also carried out PMK vaccinations for a number of livestock, especially cattle in several farms.
"We are also spraying disinfectant in the affected enclosure area," he concluded.
