Claiming To Be More Popular In Indonesia Than In His Country, An Se Young: In Korea, It's Even Rarer, Here Again The Road Is Asked For Photos
JAKARTA - South Korean women's singles badminton player An Se Young admitted that she is actually more famous in Indonesia than her home country, South Korea.
This recognition was conveyed by the 20-year-old athlete after stepping into the second round of the Indonesia Open 2022 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday night.
"In Korea, it's even rare. I'm happy here. When I walk, I often ask for photos. Go anywhere known to many people," said the defending Indonesia Open champion.
An Se Young did receive a warm welcome from the audience during his match at the Istora Senayan since the Indonesia Masters which took place last week.
Its presence in the field has its own charm. His name is often hailed both when he wants to start the match, while on the field, and when he leaves the arena.
“I was very happy, before I entered my name was already called. I'm getting more and more excited to play and give the best for fans in Indonesia," he said.
The Gwangju-born badminton player was not yet in a fit condition when he defeated Turkey's Neslihan Yigit to reach the last 16 of the BWF Super 1000 tournament which he won last year.
In the previous Indonesia Masters tournament last week, he withdrew from the round of 16 against the representative of the United States, Iris Wang.
