A Large Warehouse In Sampit, Central Kalimantan Is On Fire, Residents Are Afraid And Worried That It Will Spread To Their Houses
SAMPIT - A fire broke out in a large warehouse on Jalan Kopi Selatan, RT 34 RW 07, Mentawa Baru District, Ketapang, Sampit, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan. This fire made local residents panic
"The fire was so terrible that the residents were scared. We are worried that the fire will spread to people's houses because the housing is quite dense here," said Udin, a resident at the fire site in Sampit, Antara, Sunday, July 12.
The fire that hit the warehouse for storing groceries and building materials was discovered at around 15.30 WIB. The fire is thought to have started at the back of the warehouse and quickly spread because the warehouse, which was said to belong to a resident named Susan, contained flammable items.
The size of the fire with rising black smoke that could be seen up to a distance of five or three kilometers made the residents really panic. Moreover, officers from the Fire and Rescue Service had difficulty getting into the warehouse so they had to break through the door.
The fire continues to burn the warehouse, which is estimated to be 30 meters long by a dozen meters wide. The fire spread until it scorched a house belonging to a resident who is familiarly called Abah Eka.
The East Kotawaringin Regency Fire and Rescue Service deployed their entire fleet with 100 personnel. Even those who were off picket were also summoned and deployed to help extinguish the fire.
Fleet assistance and fire fighting personnel also came from the Regional Disaster Management Agency, the Indonesian Red Cross, PDAM and others. Everyone worked together to put out the fire.
"We are constrained by limitations because the equipment we have is inadequate such as personal protection, oxygen and others. Moreover, the contents of the goods in the warehouse are flammable goods," said Head of the East Kotawaringin Regency Fire and Rescue Service, Hawianan.
Firefighters have localized the fire so it doesn't continue to spread. However, until 19.30 WIB, officers continued to try to extinguish the fire that burned the contents of the large warehouse.
Seeing the conditions on the ground, Hawianan estimates that the fire that burns the contents of the large warehouse will only be completely extinguished within three to four days. Meanwhile, firefighters are still trying to put out the fire.
"The contents of the warehouse contain flammable materials, so it is estimated that it will take a long time. We will continue to try to extinguish it. We will stay here until the fire is completely contained so that the fire does not continue to grow until it expands," said Hawianan.
Meanwhile, the police are still investigating the cause of the massive fire in the warehouse. Police also asked a number of parties to reveal the cause of the fire.
